Houston Texans have several roster decisions ahead
By Jair Lopez
The Houston Texans will have several important decisions to make with the injury bug striking multiple positions on the roster.
The Houston Texans announced shortly after their wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was injured in the field of play that he had injured his Achilles in his left leg and was out for the season. The Texans faced more bad news as they announced that the second player that was designated to return from the IR, cornerback Kayvon Webster was injured again against the Philadelphia Eagles with a thigh injury. Webster was placed on IR alongside inside linebacker and special teamer Brian Peters today.
Peters had been dealing with an ankle injury for the majority of the season and it had kept him sidelined for multiple weeks throughout the regular season. The return of Dylan Cole and the good performance of Peter Kalambayi on special teams allowed the Texans to place Peters on IR for him to recover from his ankle issues. The Texans will have three open spots after placing Thomas, Webster, and Peters on the IR.
Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reported that the Texans have promoted wide receiver Steven Mitchell from their practice squad. An undrafted wide receiver out of the football program of USC in 2018, Mitchell signed on the Texans practice squad prior to Week 9 of the regular season.
Given the need at the receiver position with the injury of Thomas, the other two roster spots available, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Texans add more receivers into the fold to attempt to fill some of the void left by Thomas.
Johnson is a good fit for the team as he has been with the team for several weeks and has some knowledge of the team and the organization. The Texans will continue to be active in the following days as they bring players in for workouts and see which players are a good fit with the playoffs only a few weeks away.
