For the second straight week the Houston Texans have been handed a loss, this time in Week 16 against the Philadelphia Eagles, falling to 10-5 overall on the year.

There are some problems out in the open for the Houston Texans as that was very evident in their Week 16 road loss to the Philadelphia Eagles by a 32-30 score with the worst part of the game not even being the loss itself.

Earlier this season at the trade deadline the Texans traded for Demaryius Thomas to replace the injured Will Fuller after he tore his ACL. On Sunday, in the loss the the Eagles, it is being reported that Thomas tore his Achilles as he was carted off the field, which is another big punch to the Texans as they try to win the AFC South championship with one game left in the regular season.

Houston has a one-game lead in the AFC South with one week left in the regular season. A win next Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars and they still clinch the division as the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans are facing each other in Week 17, both with 9-6 records.

Depending on if the Pittsburgh Steelers lose their Week 16 game against the New Orleans Saints,  a loss by Pittsburgh would at least clinch no less than a playoff berth for the Texans as they have a 10-5 record.

As for the Week 16 loss, losing in the final seconds is never easy, but the Texans are playing all beat up with defensive backs not at 100-percent, they didn’t have Lamar Miller at running back today and there was the Thomas injury.

Still there are no excuses for the Texans to not be taking their own path the the playoffs in their hands as they had their chance to clinch the division Sunday. Worse, the loss also drops them out of the No. 2 spot in the AFC Playoffs as well as they had a chance to have a bye week to start the playoffs.

Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson was 29-of-40 for 339 yards and two touchdowns and no interceptions in the loss to the Eagles. He was also the leading rusher for the Texans with eight rushes for 49 yards and two rushing scores. Watson averaged 6.1 yards per carry in his eight carries.

DeAndre Hopkins led the Texans with nine catches on 12 targets for 104 yards receiving. DeAndre Carter chipped in with a nice game of six receptions for 61 yards. Also those with receiving touchdowns were D’Onta Foreman in his season debut and Vyncint Smith. On defense, Jadeveon Clowney had the lone sack for the Texans.

The one positive from the result for this game is the Texans are still able to control their own fate to win the AFC South championship. Sunday wasn’t the best of days by a long shot for the Texans, but they still have a chance to regroup and work on things before Week 17 as being unlucky when it comes to injures got to them on Sunday.
