The Houston Texans were handed their first loss since Week 3 on Sunday by the Indianapolis Colts, ending what was a nine-game winning streak.

All winning streaks eventually come to an end, and that was the case for the Houston Texans on Sunday in Week 14, with the Indianapolis Colts defeating the home team by a 24-21 score.

The Texans should be very proud of what they accomplished during their nine-game winning streak as it was a great success. In Week 14 though, the Texans didn’t play at their best, or close to their best on offense or defense, and it showed in the final score.

Houston had some big plays as they attempted to make a comeback in the latter stages of the fourth quarter. One of those plays included a 48-yard reception from Deshaun Watson to tight end Ryan Griffin. On the same drive, the Texans had a 7-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins in the back of the end zone to get closer to the Colts.

Then there were plays throughout the game were either Watson was keeping the ball too long while under pressure resulting in a sack, or he overthrew his wide receivers on plays that could have equaled points. Watson finished the game 27-of-38 for 267 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.

The defense can’t be let off the hook either as the J.J. Watt, Jadeveon Clowney and the rest of the front seven didn’t have the pressure on the Colts that was needed too cause issues to their offense. The duo of Watt and Clowney combined for just four tackles and one sack (by Watt). Clowney ended the game when he jumped offsides when the Texans were out of time outs on third-and-one with Luck getting him to jump offsides on the hard count.

As for Luck, he dominated the Texans’ defense once again this season as the Colts quarterback was 27-of-41 for 399 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

In all, the defense wasn’t a strong as it needed to be, and the Texans’ offense wasn’t as crisp as the have played as of late. This wasn’t the best loss for the Texans to have so late in the season, but they still have a 9-4 overall record and are in first place in the AFC South. Houston still has a two-game lead over the Colts and Tennessee Titans in the division standings with three games left on the regular season schedule.

Houston has a shorter week than usual for Week 15, with the Texans traveling to MetLife Stadium on Saturday to play the New York Jets on the NFL Network.

Sunday just wasn’t Houston’s day as the Colts defense was just too tough for the Texans to overcome resulting in a loss.
