The Houston Texans have signed Roderick Johnson from the practice squad.
The Houston Texans announced via their official Twitter account that they have signed offensive tackle Roderick Johnson from the 10 man practice squad and placed linebacker Brennan Scarlett to the IR. Scarlett was dealing with an ankle injury that he encountered in Week 13 against the Cleveland Browns. Scarlett has proven to be a solid rotational defender when healthy, but he has struggled to stay on the football field. This is the third consecutive season that Scarlett has been placed on the IR.
Scarlett was having a productive season as a special teamer and defender, his versatility and experience in Texans’ defense was on display throughout this season. Through 12 games, he had 18 tackles, one forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and an interception. Scarlett had a total of six tackles on the Texans’ special teams unit.
The Texans needed another offensive lineman since their starting right guard, Zach Fulton, was ruled out this week after sustaining a hand injury against the Browns. Greg Mancz is expected to be the replacement for Fulton at right guard meanwhile it seems that rookie offensive lineman, Martinas Rankin, will be the reserve guard since he has the versatility to play both as an offensive tackle and guard. Johnson has been mainly utilized at tackle and it seems he will be the swing tackle when the Texans play the Indianapolis Colts tomorrow.
With Scarlett being placed on IR, rookie outside linebacker, Duke Ejiofor, is expected to make his return after missing the last three games with a shoulder injury that he sustained against the Denver Broncos in Week 9.
