Houston Texans having their best season in franchise history
By Jair Lopez
The Houston Texans are having their best season in their sixteen years of existence.
Since the NFL brought an expansion team back to the city of Houston in 2002, the Houston Texans are arguably having their best season in recent memory and in franchise history. Since head coach/offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien took over in 2014, the Texans have been 9-7 in three straight seasons before going 2-14 last season. However, the Texans have already reached nine wins this season with four games remaining. The team has won their last nine games after starting 0-3.
The Texans are playing the Indianapolis Colts at home this week before they travel to Metlife Stadium to face the struggling New York Jets in Week 15, travel to Lincoln Financial Field to face the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, and closing the regular season at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The remaining teams don’t have a record better than .500, the Colts are 6-6, Jets are 3-9, Eagles are 6-6, and the Jaguars are 4-9. The Texans are currently 5-1 at home meanwhile they are 4-2 on the road.
At 9-3, The Texans are tied with the second best record in the AFC. Texans currently have the third seed in the AFC, but they are still in the mix for a bye week in the wildcard round if the New England Patriots (9-3 ) or the Kansas City Chiefs (10-2) struggle towards the end of the season due to their more difficult schedule.
The Texans are firing on all cylinders this season on both sides of the football. The defense is ranked fourth overall in the league allowing opposing offenses to score only 19.6 points per game meanwhile the offense is averaging 25.2 points per game which is good for 12th in the NFL.
This season has indicated that the Texans are in great shape to clinch the AFC South with a victory against the Colts tomorrow at NRG Stadium. The Texans could clinch their third AFC South division title in five seasons since O’Brien was hired as the head coach.
