The additions of Justin Reid and Tyrann Mathieu
Tyrann Mathieu and Justin Reid headline the additions the Houston Texans made during the offseason. Tyrann Mathieu was signed during the offseason after he got released from the Arizona Cardinals. The former Pro-Bowler was signed to a one year, 7 million dollar contract and has made an immediate impact for the Texans. Mathieu has combined for 52 total tackles and 2 sacks.
In addition, Mathieu has two interceptions and has five passes defended. Aside from his impressive on-field statistics, Mathieu has made a major impact off the field. Mathieu serves as a leader for this young and lacking secondary. Mathieu, a long-time veteran, has taught his fellow teammates a plethora of skills and has been a positive reinforcement for the secondary.
In addition to Mathieu, Justin Reid has also made an important impact. Reid, a rookie from Stanford University, was selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Reid was a projected to be a first or early second round pick, but the Texans were fortunate to come up with Reid in the third round. Reid has made his impact in his first season in the league.
Throughout the first 10 games of the season, Reid has started six games at safety and has 52 combined tackles and has recovered a fumble. In addition, Reid leads the defense with three interceptions and has seven passes defended. Reid and Mathieu have turned a position of weakness into a strength with their impressive ball skills and leadership, their energy has also rubbed off on other players and they have been instrumental in their historic win streak.
