2. Trevor Daniel and his punting expertise

When the Houston Texans decided to cut veteran Shane Lechler in favor of rookie Trevor Daniel, a lot of questions were asked and it came as a bit of a surprise. What has been even more of a surprise is the fact the Texans don’t miss Lechler and Daniel has been an outstanding punter this season.

Daniel is averaging 44.5 yards per punt this season, and even better, the rookie has had 22 punts land inside the 20-yard line. Daniel has also punted four touchbacks, and of his 43 punts this season, none have been returned for a touchdown and his longest punt has gone for 61 yards.

Those are outstanding numbers for a rookie punter in the NFL, and he’s been a big asset for the Texans, especially putting the defense in a good spot when they reach the field too. Daniel staying with the Texans might have been a bit of a surprise, but at least for this opinion it has been a great surprise in just how well he’s had success this season. Hopefully he keeps that trend going for the rest of the 2018 season.
