Being that it is a bye week for the Houston Texans, it is a great time to look back at the surprises just past the midway point of the 2018 season.

The Houston Texans have taken fans on a roller coaster ride this season where the season went straight down at a high rate of speed, only to see a resurgence where the speed picked back up and is still headed straight through the AFC South.

How the Texans began the season was a surprise in itself because they lost to the New England Patriots by only seven points, which is acceptable in a way as the Patriots are the reigning AFC champions. Week 2 and Week 3 saw the Texans lose to the Tennessee Titans and to the New York Giants.

Against Tennessee, both of their starting tackles were injured. That game, added with the loss to the lowly Giants, made the hot seat burn for head coach Bill O’Brien and the rest of the Texans team for that matter.

Even as surprising as the first three weeks to the season were, the next six weeks were even crazier with two wins in overtime, a wide receiver breaking out only to be injured for the season, and a rebirth of a past Most Valuable Player who is back to his old self.

A lot has happened with the Texans through their first nine games, and having the top spot of the AFC South as their resting place entering the Week 10 bye, it is time to realize there have been a lot of moments which have been surprising.

That thought leaves us to look at a Texans team that is 6-3 overall, as here are five exciting surprises that have happened in the first half of the 2018 NFL season.
