Houston Texans: Deshaun Watson, mid-season grades, report card
Special Teams
The special teams for the Houston Texans has kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn, punter Trevor Daniel, long snapper Jonathan Weeks and the kickoff and punt returners are Tyler Ervin and Keke Coutee.
Thus far this season, Fairbairn is 19-of-22 on field goal attempts with his three misses from 40-49 yards (5-of-6) and two misses from 50-plus yards (1-for-3), with his longest make of the season being 54 yards against the New York Giants in Week 3. Fairbairn is 21-of-22 for his extra point attempts.
In making 86.4 percent of his field goal attempts, and all but one extra point attempt, he’s scored 78 points for the season.
Daniel has 43 punts this season, averaging 44.5 yards per punt in his rookie season. In the Week 9 game against the Denver Broncos, Daniel averaged 51.2 yards per punt kicking at Mile High Stadium on a total of six punts. His best average was Week 3 against the Giants, where he made three punts for an average of 51.7 yards per punt. Daniel has made 22 punts land inside the 20-yard line, and he has a net punt average of 39.8 yards.
The special teams has been clutch with field goals in overtime by Fairbairn this season, and they’ve not really cost the Texans any games. They will most likely be called upon once again later in the season for more clutch moments for wins.
