1. Change focus to tight ends

If the Houston Texans decide not to acquire or sign a wide receiver via trade or free agency, they could change their game plan and include their tight ends more in their game plan. Rookies Jordan Thomas and Jordan Akins have shown promise throughout the first half of the season, but haven’t get a great amount of chances to show their overall talent.

Adding Ryan Griffin to the mix makes this group very potent too, but he’s missed action the past couple games with injury. The three tight ends have combined for 349 yards with a catch rate of 55-percent (27 receptions out of only 49 targets) this season.

In a more individual look at the three tight ends, Griffin in six games has 10 receptions for 140 yards and no touchdowns. Akins in eight games has nine receptions for 89 yards and no touchdowns.

Thomas in eight games has eight receptions for 120 yards and two touchdowns. This past Thursday Thomas caught four passes (on four targets) for 29 yards and two touchdowns.

By giving more opportunities to this tight ends group, they can excel and make the Texans forget about the hole in the wide receiver position.
