Houston Texans: Facing a familiar quarterback on Thursday Night Football
By Jair Lopez
Houston Texans will square off against the Miami Dolphins and Brock Osweiler in a AFC clash on Thursday Night Football.
In a short week of rest, the Miami Dolphins will travel to Texas to face the Houston Texans in NRG stadium for a primetime game on Thursday night where the Texans will take on an old friend.
Cameron Wolfe of ESPN reported that the Dolphins will probably without starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill for the near future, writing the following:
"Tannehill faces an uphill challenge to play next Thursday at the Houston Texans, and it is likely Osweiler will start that game as well, a source told ESPN."
The Texans and Dolphins quarterback Brock Osweiler share an embarrassing history as the team paid an unproven Osweiler to be their franchise quarterback in 2016 via free agency, giving him a $72 million deal with $37 million guaranteed. Although Osweiler went with the team all the way to the AFC Divisional game vs. the New England Patriots, he struggled throughout the entire season in moving the offense down the field and into the end zone.
Osweiler was mediocre in his lone season with the Texans finishing with 2,957 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Being benched for his poor style of play and his rocky relationship with head coach Bill O’Brien was a few indicators that his career would be short in Houston.
The Texans front office managed to salvage the situation by trading his horrible contract to the Cleveland Browns, a 2017 sixth-rounder, 2018 second-round draft pick in exchange for financial relief and a 2017 fourth draft choice.
Osweiler will be coming into Week 8 with a 1-1 record as a starter, he has thrown for 619 passing yards, five touchdowns, and a couple of interceptions this season.
It’ll be interesting to see if he’ll be able to maintain that type of production or if he will regress when he faces Texans front seven which has caused plenty of problems for opposing offenses in their four-game win streak.
