1. Inside Linebacker
The Houston Texans are literally an injury away from catastrophe at their inside linebacker position. They currently have Benardrick McKinney, Zach Cunningham, Tyrell Adams, Brian Peters and outside linebacker converted inside linebacker, Peter Kalambayi. Peters is a special teams ace who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, and Adams has been on the active roster for less than a couple of weeks after being on the practice squad a few days prior.
The Texans really don’t have any dependable players at this position besides the starters. Dylan Cole was one of the better players at his position on the defense after McKinney and Cunningham, but he was placed on the IR after undergoing surgery to repair wrist and knee injuries.
The Texans lack experience and reliable players at this position, and it is important for the team to have better options moving forward. The team could opt to sign to a free agent off the street or sign another inside linebacker to the practice squad where they can develop them in case an injury indeed does occur to the starters.
The linebacker position is one of the most physical positions on the defense, so it is only natural for injuries to occur at this position. The front office has to make sure to stay on top of the issue and have options standing by if anything happens to the starters.
