The defense of the Houston Texans late in the fourth quarter stepped up for their third straight win of the season, defeating the Buffalo Bills.

Two interceptions late in the fourth quarter, including a Pick 6 by Johnathan Joseph and later a game-winning interception by Kareem Jackson, sealed a 20-13 win for the Houston Texans over the Buffalo Bills in Week 6, sending them to the .500 mark on the season.

The interception for a touchdown by Joseph — off of backup quarterback Nathan Peterman — was the play the Texans needed all game long, gaining the momentum after the offense lost it basically each time they had the ball. The defense saved this game for the Texans and allowed just 13 points in the win.

More from Houston Texans News

In six games this season, the Texans are not only 3-3 overall but they have seen all six of their final outcomes be by seven points or less. The Texans  have defeated the Indianapolis Colts, Dallas Cowboys and now the Bills in the past three weeks. None of the wins can be described a solid or by the book, but a win is a win at this point of the season.

Houston’s offensive line was not very good once again as they allowed pressure on the left side that sent Watson to being hit too much in this game. Watson finished 15-of-25 for 177 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Watson also rushed the ball twice for two yards. He also fumbled three times, losing one of those fumbles.

Granted, this wasn’t the best game played by Watson this season, but he was out on the field with a bruised lung and a chest injury too. The offensive line did him no favors in pass blocking, and the run blocking and running backs weren’t that great either with Lamar Miller and Alfred Blue combining for 72 yards on 22 carries. Neither running back averaged at or over 4.0 yards per carry in the win.

DeAndre Hopkins led the Texans with five receptions for 63 yards with one touchdown as he was targeted six times. Will Fuller and Keke Coutee each had 33 yards receiving with Fuller having two receptions and Coutee having three.

Again this win was all the defense of the Texans, though they did allow two touchdowns, but when the game was on the line they showed up and got the job done for the team. Zach Cunningham led the Texans with nine tackles, while J.J. Watt totals three tackles and a sack, giving him at least one sack in each of the past four games.

There is a clear issue with the offensive line and more change are needed to make the offense something to fear, especially in the red zone.

The offense almost lost this game for the Texans with their inability to score touchdowns in the red zone at a consistent basis, and they should be thankful for how the defense took advantage of the Bills having to go to Peterman in the late stages of the fourth quarter.
