Houston Texans: Cyril Grayson signs to the practice squad

The Houston Texans have signed wide receiver Cyril Grayson to their 10-man practice squad.

Houston Texans decided to place rookie wide receiver Jester Weah to the IR for them to have an open roster spot to sign free agent Cyril Grayson this week.

The signing is an intriguing considering Grayson had no football experience in his time in LSU. Grayson was attending LSU as a track-and-field athlete. Grayson was signed as free agent by the Seattle Seahawks after he didn’t necessarily qualify for the NFL Draft since he never played the sport.

Robert Flemko of Sports Illustrated paints a better picture of how foreign football was to potential football prospect Grayson:

"He was an All-America sprinter for the Tigers who had worked out with the LSU football team for a spell."

As also reported by Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Grayson had a phenomenal workout in LSU’s pro day. Grayson posted a 4.33 40-yard dash run and 10-7 broad jump, he was in the radar of NFL teams following that workout. After not having played football since high school, Grayson had the opportunity to join the NFL when the Seahawks signed him.

Being a very raw prospect, Grayson is reminiscent of former Texans’ tight end prospect Jevoni Robinson who played basketball at his alma mater NC State before giving football a try. Grayson has a long way to go as he continues to pursue his dream to be part of a football team, but he has earned himself a roster spot in the practice squad for the Texans.
