The Houston Texans played their third game of the preseason Saturday afternoon. Some on Twitter had thoughts on the performance against the Los Angeles Rams.

There is just one preseason game remaining for the Houston Texans, as they completed their third preseason game on Saturday, losing to the Los Angeles Rams by a 21-21 score. The Texans got out of the preseason game healthy with Deshaun Watson throwing just six passes on the day (and had one rush), while Lamar Miller rushed the ball just three times on the road against Los Angeles.

The battle for being the top backup quarterback continued as well in this third preseason game, as this time it was Brandon Weeden who led the way with a 10-of-17 performance for 108 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Joe Webb was 7-of-10 for 93 yards and one touchdown in his time on Saturday.

With Watson being the sure starter at quarterback on the roster, he completed 50 percent of his attempts on Saturday, finishing 3-of-6 for 15 yards and one interception, but all that matters for Watson right now is he’s healthy and ready to take the ball once Week 1 arrives against the New England Patriots.

The rushing game still leaves a lot to the imagination with Alfred Blue taking the top spot in the game with five rushes for 45 yards and a 3-yard touchdown run. At wide receiver, Vyncint Smith – who is battling for a spot on the 53-man roster — finished with a 43-yard reception, while Braxton Miller and Quan Bray each had a touchdown reception, as Miller finished the game with three receptions for 26 yards, including a long reception of 16 yards. DeAndre Hopkins had one catch for four yards as he waits for the start of the regular season to really get things started for Houston.

Defensively, it was great to see the return of J.J. Watt back on the field in game action, with the former AP Defensive Player of the Year having one sack as he continues his comeback after missing a majority of the 2017 season with injury. Marcus Hardison at defensive tackle finished the game with a sack, and Kareem Jackson had an interception.

Granted, this wasn’t the best showing by the Texans, but it was good to see some of the veterans and star players on the field and getting some playing time. The 4-12 Texans from a season ago shouldn’t show up again anytime soon if they can stay healthy, but there is still work to do with the offensive line and the rushing game on the offensive side of the ball.

The defense has a good opportunity to be a good unit this season, and maybe the player to be most excited about is Jadeveon Clowney. In being excited about Clowney, the return of Watt makes the defense even more exciting, but for both players, what a successful season comes down to is whether they can both stay on the field this season.
