2. Tyler Ervin, Running Back

The running back situation of the Houston Texans is a conundrum for the fact the starting running back is set with Lamar Miller, and if Alfred Blue, is healthy he’ll most likely be the second option at the position. That leaves the Texans with D’Onta Foreman as the third running back on the roster, and from there, let the games begin.

Tyler Ervin could become the odd man out of the rest of the Texans’ running backs for the fact he’s battled injuries last season, and the competition in Houston to make the running back roster isn’t easy whatsoever.

It is always great to see a strong preseason effort from a player, and that is something that has impressed many this preseason about Ervin. Being with the Texans since the ’16 season, Ervin hasn’t put much on the stat sheet as he’s been battling injuries and playing time to boot. He played in 12 games his rookie season but only had one rushing attempt for three yards. Last season, he played in four games and had four attempts for 12 yards.

As this is his third season with Houston, the odds are against Ervin making the roster. With the Texans keeping Miller, Blue and Foreman, that leaves maybe one or two roster spots for Ervin, Terry Swanson, Troymaine Pope and Lavon Coleman to compete for. It will come down to who can help the team the most elsewhere on the field besides running back, and Ervin is going to have to show he is the player that can do that.
