The Houston Texans, like every other NFL team, need to be sure the backup quarterback role is settled when the season begins.

The Houston Texans need to fortify their depth at quarterback. In a quarterback-driven league, the strength at that position can determine the fate of a team. The Philadelphia Eagles wouldn’t have been Super Bowl LII champions without the brilliant performance of their backup quarterback Nick Foles.

When Deshaun Watson went down with a torn ACL injury, so did the opportunity of the team competing for a playoff berth.

Tom Savage, T.J. Yates, and a small dose of Taylor Heinicke weren’t enough to change the course of the season.

The Texans only won one more game in the remaining nine games of the regular season.

The defense remained what it was for the rest of the season with Mike Vrabel as the defensive coordinator, but the offense took a turn for the worse after it looked like it everything was beginning to click.

The Texans have several options coming into the 2018 season, and here is a breakdown of the contenders to back up Deshaun Watson and keep this team on track when needed.
