Acquiring Andre Ellington made sense for the Houston Texans in more than one way, as it’s reunited two family members.

The Houston Texans were very fortunate to be able to acquire former Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington off of waivers this week.

Not only did the Texans need a versatile running back with D’Onta Foreman out for the remainder of the season, but they were able to reunite to family members.

It turns out that Andre Ellington is the cousin of Texans’ wide receiver Bruce Ellington.

After high school, Andre went on to play his college ball at Clemson University and Bruce played at the University of South Carolina.

Andre played alongside his new teammate DeAndre Hopkins while at Clemson.

"“Oh yeah, Nuk was my boy,” he said. “I was there, but when he first got there, we started hanging out right away. He’s a great guy.”"

In case you’re wonder, the 28 year-old Andre is older than his cousin Bruce, who is 26 years-old.

The Ellington family is fired up now that two of their family members are on the same NFL team.

"“They’re loving it,” Andre Ellington said Wednesday inside the Texans’ locker room. “They’re on Cloud Nine right now. They’re all excited about it now because we don’t have to buy separate tickets. We can all put them all together. It’s going to be good.”"

Both Andre and Bruce Ellington weren’t high draft picks. Andre was taken in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft and Bruce was selected in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Andre is very happy to be playing with his cousin.

"“Bruce is a sharp guy,” Andre Ellington said. “He’s fun to be around. He’s a pleasure. I’m sure the guys love him out here and hopefully he can keep that personality going.”"

What’s really cool is that the players on the Texans will be off for Thanksgiving. I got a feeling that the Ellington family will be flying into Houston for a special celebration.

With the Texans playing on Monday night, it enabled them to get off on Thursday. Teams playing on Monday nights typically don’t start practicing until Thursday. It sounds like the Texans practiced on Wednesday in order to have off for Thanksgiving.
