The Houston Texans’ defense has been outshining their offense on paper.
Most recently, the Houston Texans’ defense has looked a lot better than their offense and has carried them as a team. But with rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson now under center, things have changed in 2017.
The Texans offense is second in the NFL when it comes to scoring and they’re ranked fourth in the league when it comes to first downs.
What’s interesting is that Houston’s defense is dominating their offense in terms of their Pro Football Focus grades.
As Texans Wire pointed out, the highest graded player on the Texans so far this season is cornerback Johnathan Joseph, with a rating of 84.4.
Here’s a list of the top-10 players on the Texans, in terms of their overall PFF grade through the first six weeks of the season.

When looking at the ratings above, it’s encouraging to see how well guys like Marcus Gilchrist and Zach Cunningham are playing.
GIlchrist is a free agent that the Texans brought in during the summer and he’s been a guy that’s helped fill the void left behind by Quintin Demps, after he left as a free agent this past offseason.
When it comes to Cunningham, he’s done an admirable job filling in for linebacker Brian Cushing, who’s currently in the middle of serving a 10 game suspension for failing a performance enhancing drug test.
