J.J. Watt takes cart ride, Whitney Mercilus knocked out of game

The Houston Texans may not have Whitney Mercilus and J.J. Watt for a long time.
Within the first 10 minutes of Sunday night’s game between the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs, both defensive lineman J.J. Watt and linebacker Whitney Mercilus went down with injuries.
Watt ended up getting carted to the locker room after being examined on the sideline.

Reports are that Watt is out with a knee injury and it sounds like it might be serious.

There is an ambulance waiting for Watt. Not good at all.

Watt hasn’t been putting up impressive stats this year, but after losing him in week three last season, losing him in week five of this year isn’t good at all. His body could be breaking down.
When it comes to Mercilus, he’s already been ruled out with a chest injury.

I’m only speculating, but my guess is that Mercilus suffered a torn pectoral muscle. Let’s hope this is not the case, since he would likely miss the remainder of the season.
With Watt out, Christian Covington or Carlos Watkins could be the next man up for the Texans. Covington has looked good this season in a limited role.

When looking at Houston’s depth chart, Ufomba Kamalu could be the guy to fill in for Mercilus.
The Texans’ defense is loaded with talent with guys like Bernardrick McKinney and Jadeveon Clowney, but losing Watt and Mercilus is huge.
I’m not sure if the Texans’ defense can play at a high level without two of their best players.
