The Houston Texans are going to have to bring their A-game against the New England Patriots.
The Houston Texans are going to have their hands full this week on the road against the New England Patriots.
I’ve come up with three match-ups to keep your eye on in week three.
Jonathan Joseph vs. Brandin Cooks
Through the first two weeks of the season, Patriots’ wide receiver Brandin Cooks hasn’t done much damage. But he’s still a threat and I expect Texans’ cornerback Jonathan Joseph to cover him on the outside.
Also look for the Texans to give Joseph some help over the top with safety Andre Hal.
Deshaun Watson vs. Matt Patricia
A rookie quarterback has never gone into New England and defeated Bill Belichick since he’s been the head coach of the Patriots.
I’m sure Belichick and defense coordinator Matt Patricia will have some surprises for Texans’ rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson.
The great thing about Watson is that he doesn’t get rattled easily.
The Texans’ offense will go as far as Watson takes them.
Whitney Mercilus vs. Nate Solder/Marcus Cannon
If the Texans are going to have any chance at upsetting the Patriots on the road in New England, they’re going to need to get after quarterback Tom Brady.
I have a feeling that linebacker Whitney Mercilus is the guy that can make a difference for Houston’s defense with J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney drawing a lot of attention from the Patriots’ offense.
Mercilus will likely be moving around to wherever the strong side of the offense is. Whether that’s the right or left side. It will be interesting to see whether or not the Patriots give Nate Solder and Marcus Cannon help when facing Mercilus.
