Houston Texans’ fans were elated to hear Tom Savage was benched in favor of Deshaun Watson.

Ever since the Houston Texans traded up in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft in order to select quarterback Deshaun Watson, all we’ve been hearing is that veteran quarterback Tom Savage is the guy no matter what.

It’s amazing how quickly things can change.

Like I mentioned earlier in the day, the Texans benched Savage at halftime of Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in favor of Watson.

As you see from the tweets below, Texans’ fans were very happy with the news.

Watson’s first official NFL drive led to him throwing a four-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

Unfortunately Watson wasn’t able to lead the Texans to a comeback win and losing to the Jags 29-7 at home.

In defense of Savage, it wasn’t his fault that Houston didn’t score in the first half. He was sacked five times. Their offensive line was been a mess all game. It’s obvious that they need left tackle Duane Brown back as well as some other help.

The Texans also lost linebacker Brian Cushing and tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz to concussions. All in all, Houston’s opener was a debacle.

You also have to wonder how much hurricane Harvey has affected the Texans and their players in preparation for this week’s game as well as the season. It’s been an emotional roller coaster for everyone.
