Tom Savage is proving he deserves to be Houston Texans’ starter.

Prior to Saturday’s preseason game between the Houston Texans and New England Patriots, I was really itching to see rookie Deshaun Watson get some first-team snaps with the Texans’ offense.

After watching Tom Savage complete nine of 11 passes for 69 yards during their first preseason game last week, I still wasn’t sold on him and wanted to see more of Watson.

Then Savage put together another nice outing against the Patriots as he completed eight of nine passes for 98 yards.

Watson on the other hand was not very good as a passer. He only completed three of his 10 attempts on the night.

I know it’s only been two games, but it’s obvious that Savage deserves to be the Texans’ starting quarterback.

As excited as we all are when it comes to Watson as a potential future franchise quarterback, now is not his time.

Savage is doing exactly what the Texans need him to do. He’s taking care of the football and completing a high percentage of his passes.

As long as Savage keeps doing that while allowing his running game along with Houston’s defense take care of business, they’ll be fine this coming season.

All Watson needs to worry about right now is continuing to get comfortable as an NFL quarterback. Because if Savage struggles during a period of time or gets injured this season, the Texans may have to call on the rookie.
