Jadeveon Clowney the next Texans’ player to become the NFL MVP?

When you think of which player could end up as this year’s NFL MVP, you typically think of Houston Texans defensive lineman J.J. Watt.

With Watt coming off of back surgery, there’s one other player on the Texans that could be named the 2017 MVP.

Dan Parzych of FanSided’s NFL Spin Zone has chosen a dark horse MVP candidate for every NFL team.

When it comes to the Texans, Parzych went with pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney.

"Expectations surrounding Jadeveon Clowney joining the defense of the Houston Texans were high in 2014 since he would be joining one of the league’s top defensive players in J.J. Watt, and even though it’s taken a little time, the former South Carolina star finally seems to be coming around. Now, the question is whether Clowney can build off last year’s success to finally become the defensive star Houston has been waiting to see.Staying healthy was a major concern for Clowney early on in his career after only appearing in four games as a rookie, but at least he’s been making progress over the previous seasons to make the Texans hopeful about the future. Houston’s defense has been the difference maker in the team winning back-to-back AFC South titles, and if Clowney continues to improve while staying healthy, just imagine how scary this unit can be."

While Parzych chose Clowney as his dark horse candidate, Watt has been chosen as the top candidate.

After a breakout season in 2016, Clowney is the Texans’ next defensive star with J.J. Watt not getting any younger and Brian Cushing likely in his final season in Houston.

That being said, Clowney could be ready to reach an MVP level in 2017 as long as he’s able to stay healthy.
