DeAndre Hopkins believes Deshaun Watson has what it takes.

Houston Texans star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins gave his endorsement for veteran Tom Savage to be the starter for the upcoming season.

That doesn’t mean that Hopkins isn’t a believer in rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Hopkins believes that Watson has what it takes to be successful in the NFL.

From Texans Wire:

"“He’s far from where I was as a rookie, mentally-wise,” Hopkins said of Watson. “At the quarterback position – that’s probably the hardest position to learn on the football team. He has picked it up well.”“He’s been doing a lot of things, not just on the field but off the field as well. You’ll see him in there in his notebook. As soon as he gets in there he’s on his iPad looking at plays, trying to get better, trying to make his mistakes right. You can’t do that on the football field. You have to do that by off the field. Mentally, he has it.”"

When a player gets to the NFL they need to take their game to the next level.  Not with their physical talents, but mentally.

We’ve seen very talented quarterbacks like Jeff George and Jay Cutler fall short of being great because they don’t have what it takes mentally to get the job done as a starting NFL quarterback.

If Watson does in fact do a great job of adapting mentally to the NFL, the Texans will then have found themselves a franchise quarterback.
