I’m not sure J.J. Watt is one of the top pass rushers in the NFL right now.

One of the biggest mysteries surrounding the Houston Texans in 2017 is whether or not defensive star J.J. Watt will be able to return to his previous form after undergoing two back surgeries and missing most of last season.

Another question I have is, is Watt still one of the top pass rushers in the league?

Randy Gurzi of FanSided’s NFL Spin Zone has released a list of his top-30 pass rushers heading into the upcoming season and he has Watt as at No. 2.

"With as many great defenders as there has been in the league it’s hard to imagine that Watt is actually the first to ever record 20-or-more sacks in two separate seasons. He was so good that year for the 9-7 Texans that there was real talk about him being an MVP candidate despite the fact that his team missed out on the playoffs. He then backed that season up again with 17.5 more sacks in 2015, and again led the Texans to a 9-7 season. In both those years, Houston had some pretty average play out of their quarterbacks, but Watt was still able to be the driving force behind their successful seasons."

There’s no doubt that Watt was the second best pass rusher before last season. But he only played three games in 2016 and we don’t know if he can once again rack up up over 17 sacks this coming fall like he did in 2015.

I would be more comfortable with Watt being ranked around No. 15, instead of No. 2, until he proves whether or not he can still be a dominant force.
