With last week’s OTA’s now behind us, we now have a small glimpse of where the Houston Texans might headed in 2017.

Without any surprise at all, rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson is looking like…a rookie.  Which is just fine. Hopefully be the end of the summer he will have made some big strides.

J.J. Watt seems to finally be healthy, which is great news for the NFL’s top-ranked defense from last year.

Dan Parzych of NFL Spin Zone has released his latest NFL power rankings and he has the Texans ranked ninth in the NFL.

Here’s what Parzych wrote about the Texans:

"Now, the question becomes which quarterback will emerge over the next few months as the starter for this team heading into Week 1 of the 2017 season. At the moment, Tom Savage seems to have the early advantage over Deshaun Watson due to experience, but Houston never would have traded up in the first round to land the former Clemson star if they didn’t strongly believe he was the long-term answer at quarterback.Even if his high number of turnovers from the last few seasons with the Tigers was a major issue, there’s clearly something special about Watson from a leadership and winning perspective. The Texans have been “one quarterback away” from being serious contenders in the AFC for years, and hopefully those issues will finally disappear in 2017, whether it ends up being Watson or Savage under center."

Parzych is definitely going against the grain when it comes to the Texans.  Most NFL writers don’t even have them as a top-15 team heading into the upcoming season.  Never mind ninth overall.

Despite the quarterback position being a question mark for the Texans, the rest of their roster is almost perfect.  They have plenty of weapons on offense and defense to contend for another AFC South title.
