Texans’ GM Rick Smith: We’re going to add a third quarterback
There’s no doubt the Houston Texans will add another quarterback after Rick Smith’s comments on Friday.
Texans general manager Rick Smith spoke with the media on Friday and touched on many different topics.
One thing that Smith talked about was their current situation at quarterback. He made it clear that they plan on adding another one before training camp starts.
As badly as the Texans need a franchise quarterback, Smith doesn’t feel the pressure of grabbing one of the first round.
I think there’s a 100 percent chance that the Texans will draft quarterback within the first two rounds of the draft. I wouldn’t expect them to take one any later.
I would actually lean towards believing that Houston will not take a signal-caller in the first round if Patrick Mahomes and some of the other top prospects end up going off the board before they’re on the clock like many people believe.
I believe this also rules out that the idea of the Texans adding another quarterback through free agency.
That shipped has sailed.

Even though Houston has looked into signing Colin Kaepernick and Jay Cutler, I believe they’re perfectly fine in their own minds with Tom Savage and Brandon Weeden as the veteran options until whoever they draft is ready to take over.
The only way I can see the Houston Texans adding another veteran is if Savage or Weeden were to go down with a season-ending injury.
