DeShaun Watson would be an ideal pick for the Houston Texans.

The majority of NFL mock drafts this offseason have the Texans taking Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

There is a chance Mahomes may not be available when the Texans are on the clock.

Rob Rang of CBS Sports released his latest NFL mock draft last week and he has the Texans taking Clemson quarterback DeShaun Watson.

"Getting rid of the colossal Brock Osweiler contract was a relief in itself, but unless a veteran replacement is found, quarterback is the top priority again in Houston. Watson’s ability to deliver in the clutch intrigues scouts, but he also threw an FBS-worst 30 interceptions over the past two seasons, making him a polarizing player among scouts. At this point in the draft, however, GM Rick Smith might see him as simply too talented to pass up."

Watson would be an even better pick then Mahomes, but he’s also expected to be gone by the time Houston is ready to make their first round selection.

Pro Football Focus believes Watson would be the best case scenario for the Texans.

"Unless they sign a quarterback before the draft, I can’t see how Houston could pass on a QB here. They’ve already mortgaged the future for immediate cap space with the Brock Osweiler trade. The roster is good enough to win a Super Bowl, but Tom Savage is not."

I know there are people who have faith that believe that Tom Savage can be the guy, but I honestly don’t see it happening.

It’s really a shame that this year’s crop of quarterbacks doesn’t have one player that’s ready to start right away in the NFL.

No matter what it looks like Savage will have to be the week one starter.  After that, things could get interesting.
