Will the Houston Texans get a chance to draft Patrick Mahomes?

It seems like almost every mock draft is predicting that the Houston Texans will end up selecting Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes with the 25th overall pick in this month’s NFL draft.

It’s now sounding like there’s a chance Mahomes might be off the board when Houston is on the clock.

Matt Verderame of FanSided wrote today that Mahomes’ stock is starting to rise.

"Mahomes is part of what many believe is a weak quarterback class, but he’s beginning to gain some momentum. The Texas Tech product has recently worked out privately with the Bears, Chargers, Steelers, Saints, Cardinals and Browns. At this juncture, it’s hard to see Mahomes slipping past Arizona at No.13 in the first round. If he doesn’t, however, he could fall right into the laps of the Texans or Chiefs, who pick 25th and 27th, respectively. Look for Mahomes to possibly be the first quarterback off the board on April 27."

I feel like if this was any other year Mahomes would be a second or third round pick.  But given the fact that NFL teams are enamored with his arm strength as well as his upside, there is a chance he could be the first quarterback taken this year.

On the flip side, if Mahomes is taken high in the first round, I’m sure other quarterbacks like DeShone Kizer, Mitchell Trubisky and DeShaun Watson could end up falling to the Texans.

So while there’s a chance the Texans could miss out on Mahomes, they could still land a good young quarterback in Kizer, Trubisky or Watson.

Comment below and let me know what you think will happen with Mahomes and who the Texans will take in the first round.
