Texans worked out Bucknell left tackle Julie’n Davenport
Julie’n Davenport has the talent to be a starting offensive tackle in the NFL, but it’s going to take some time for him to develop.
The Houston Texans are really doing their homework on this year’s crop of offensive tackles.
I mentioned on Friday that the Texans have a pre-draft visit lined up with Texas A&M left tackle Avery Gennesy.
Houston also took the time to work out another offensive tackle prospect this past Friday.
Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reported that Bucknell left tackle Julie’n Davenport would be working out for the Houston Texans this past Friday.
"The Texans have scheduled a private workout Friday with rising Bucknell left offensive tackle Julién Davenport, according to a source not authorized to speak publicly.Texans offensive line coach Mike Devlin will conduct the workout."
Davenport is currently projected to be taken in the fourth of fifth round of this year’s NFL draft because of his raw skills.

Here’s what Davenport’s NFL.com draft profile says:
"Raw tackle lacking in technique but long on physical traits. Has been able to dominate against lower level of competition and his step up in competition during pre-draft workouts will either throw a wet blanket over his draft grade or send his stock soaring. Despite a lack of technique, his traits will have teams willing to draft and wait for him as a project. He will be a work in progress and might be forced to move to the right side."
If the Texans end up not taking an offensive tackle within the first few rounds, they could decide to go with someone like Davenport.
The only problem is that Houston needs held at right tackle right now. Not in a year or two.
Of course with a weak offensive tackle draft class, Davenport’s draft sock could rise if he does really well in his workouts. This of course would mean the Texans wouldn’t be able to grab him later in the draft.
