Patrick Mahomes has been a favorite for the Houston Texans in mock drafts.

As much as the Texans could use a right tackle, it seems as though a lot of people feel like they will use this year’s first round pick on a quarterback.

Brad Weiss of FanSided released a mock draft on Wednesday and he has the Texans using the 25th overall pick on Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes II.

Here’s what Weiss wrote about Mahomes:

"Mahomes played his college ball in Texas, as he starred at Texas Tech in Kliff Kingsberry’s Air Raid offense. While he certainly has the arm talent, he does need to work on his footwork, which may delay him being a starting quarterback in the NFL. Head coach Bill O’Brien is not afraid to go with the young guy at quarterback, which means Mahomes could be the starter from day one if the Texans take him in April."

I have to admit, Mahomes is starting to grow on me.  I actually like him more than Mitchell Trubisky.

But the one thing that scares me about Mahomes is the fact that he’s probably not ready to start right away and we don’t know if the Texans will be able to rely on Tony Romo or Tom Savage due to their injury problems.

There’s no doubt that Mahomes has a great arm, but what’s more important than that is what kind of leader he is and whether he’s mature enough to handle the pressure of being an NFL starting quarterback.

Jay Cutler has a great arm, but lacks leadership and we’ve seen where that’s gotten him during his NFL career.

I’m not saying Mahomes is another Jay Cutler, I’m saying being a great quarterback is more than just having a great arm.
