Houston Texans: 5 players whose stock is falling
By Randy Gurzi
4. Cecil Shorts III, WR
So far in preseason action veteran wide receiver Cecil Shorts III has just one reception on two targets. That lone catch went for just five yards.
While usually this shouldn’t matter for a veteran player in the preseason, it could for Shorts. With other guys with locked positions (see DeAndre Hopkins) on the sidelines resting from a quick series or two on Saturday, Shorts was in with all the second-stringers.
Even running with backups Cecil barely saw the ball come his way. Now, it’s not all his fault as Houston is suddenly stacked at wide receiver.
On Saturday the team started with Hopkins, Jaelen Strong and Will Fuller at wide out. Then Braxton Miller came on as well, as the team featured four guys before getting to the former Jacksonville Jaguar.
Shorts knew his time could be coming in Houston during the offseason. After seeing Fuller and Miller get selected in the draft, Shorts took a pay cut in an attempt to stay with the team.
After two games, it looks like that may not be enough to keep him around as he’s clearly behind several young players.
