1. Jadeveon Clowney, OLB

Texans fans had to be loving the night outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney had. He missed the first preseason game due to injury and the critics were out big time.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle poked fun at his injury history and others were joking about the fact that he was at a casino the night before the team’s first game. His teammates however stood up for him and the results were great on Saturday night.

Clowney played well against the run and was providing pressure all night. He recorded just two tackles and one sack, but was much more effective than the stat lines show.

His one sack was a dominate play, and it drew much higher praise from those who follow the NFL.

Clowney also drew a holding penalty against left tackle Andrus Peat which forced New Orleans into a rough situation on offense. It was an excellent debut game for Clowney. This one game won’t silence all his critics, but it’s an excellent start.
