2. Brock Osweiler, QB

On the road against San Francisco the Texans kept their new quarterback Brock Osweiler in check. He threw just seven passes, completing four. The grand total for yards was a depressing 27 from the big money free agent.

This wasn’t all his fault though as it seemed like the team was featuring a very basic offense. The goal was most likely to get a little warmed up as the exhibition games were getting underway.

In the more recent game Houston let Osweiler play a little more and he performed much better. Brock completed 12-of-19 passes for 127 yards with a touchdown and a pick. The interception was a terrible throw, and was his last of the night. However, had this been a regular season game he would have never thrown the pass.

Houston was trying to extend their lead and they were facing a fourth-and-goal. Rather than take the sure three points they opted to give their offense some practice on fourth-down plays. Osweiler’s pass was picked off by cornerback P.J. Williams in the end zone.

His critics will surely love that play, but on the night he was calm and collected. Osweiler delivered the ball quickly and made some good decisions. There is still room to grow, but the Texans never really show all their cards in the preseason.

Look for Osweiler to be even more comfortable in Week 3 as the team trots him out for what should be his final preseason game.
