Texans vs. Saints Preview: Five Players to Watch
By Josh McSwain
Kurtis Drummond/Quintin Demps
Did I mention the position battle at safety? These two guys played the fewest snaps among the safeties against San Francisco, each at 22 snaps (27% of the defensive snaps). Will they get more snaps this week? That remains to be seen.
Perhaps the safeties are on a time share where over the course of the preseason they rotate in and out of getting the bigger load of snaps. But Eddie Pleasant, a favorite to be a starter, got the most snaps at safety against San Francisco. So does that mean that Drummond and Demps are the furthest down the depth chart right now?
Not necessarily. Demps is listed as the starter at the Texans unofficial depth chart against the Saints while Drummond is listed as third string strong safety. Rookie KJ Dillon got 26 snaps while Corey Moore got 28. But they are both buried on the depth chart at the moment.
This week will likely tell us a lot about the position battle at safety. I would expect some decisions back there to be made before the 75 man cutdown on August 30.
