Houston Texans: 5 players whose stock is rising after preseason Week 1

2. Tom Savage, QB
Stats can be misleading. Backup quarterback Tom Savage had completed 14-of-24 passes but his night was much cleaner than the ten incompletions would indicate.
Working with all backups doesn’t help a guy like Savage, but what did help was the poise he showed in the pocket. We already discussed him hitting Strong on a nice play while taking a shot. This was the norm for Savage as pressure didn’t phase him.
Savage finished the night with no interceptions and connected on two touchdowns. One to running back Akeem Hunt from 9-yards out, the other from 7-yards to tight end Stephen Anderson.
He did happen to miss a receiver or two, but that makes sense considering he is just returning from a season on the injured reserve. He is also working on continuity with some guys he isn’t used to playing with.
Overall, it was an impressive night for the quarterback who is looking to get himself a job as a primary back up in the NFL.
