The above picture is truly a good news/bad news shot. The bad news is that it shows The Ugly is possible as shown by the Texans secondary and entire defense in Miami and Atlanta last year. The good news is the Dolphins #26, Lamar Miller, is a Texan now.

Worst case performance by the Texans secondary seems highly unlikely. Considering the talent it  seems to require all The Bad scenarios, a rash of injuries, Father Time catching up with Joseph, and poor performance by the front seven happening all at once.

However, before getting too comfortable we should look at the Miami and Atlanta games. The secondary displayed worst case performance being unable to stop the pass and reluctant to stop the run. The front seven and the secondary appeared to collapse together.

The front seven couldn’t stop the run or rush the passer. Corners played soft and conservatively but still managed to watch people run by them all day. The free safety seemed reluctant to make contact and disinterested in proper pursuit paths. Bang…worst case in a heartbeat. It happened twice last year, but what is the chance that it could happen for a more prolonged period this year?
