Texans’ Cecil Shorts accepts $1.55 million pay cut – by Aaron Wilson, Houston Chronicle
"Texans veteran wide receiver Cecil Shorts has accepted a pay cut with his base salary having been reduced to a nonguaranteed $1.2 million from an originally scheduled nonguaranteed $2.75 million, according to NFL Players Association records.Although it’s a $1.55 million salary reduction, Shorts can make up to $1.95 million this season. That’s down from the $3 million total he could previously earn this season under a two-year, $6 million contract signed last year."

"It is clear Shorts is going to have to prove his worth when training camp arrives. The Texans appear to be ready to start the youth movement but they will want Shorts to make it tough for the younger players when training camp arrives. Timing is always something to pay attention to and, with this move coming around the closure of mini-camp, the staff had a chance to get better looks at youngsters Jaelen Strong, Keith Mumphrey, Braxton Miller and Will Fuller V. Something about what the team saw made them feel comfortable with this move."
