Swing Tackle: Chris Clark

General manager Rick Smith must have had a sixth sense because he made a smart move as the preseason was wrapping up when he swapped a seventh round pick for swing tackle Chris Clark from the Denver Broncos.

Originally an undrafted free agent out of Southern Miss, Clark made his way from Tampa Bay to Minnesota and then Denver before being shipped to Houston.

The Texans were fortunate to have someone with 27 career starts to his name before the 2015 season started sitting on the bench because they had to turn to Clark often. He had four starts in 11 games, and played significant time in many of the games he didn’t start due to injuries.

Look for Clark to again serve as the primary backup to both tackles in 2016.

T/G: Jeff Adams

Jeff Adams was another guy relied upon due to injury, but then he quickly succumbed to the Texans 2015 offensive lineman curse himself.

Another undrafted free agent, Adams played for several teams before finding a home in Houston in 2014 and was the starter for the team to start the 2015 season at left guard.

Originally a tackle, Adams showed his versatility and could in fact challenge Su’a-Filo for the starting gig.

Look for his talent to be enough to puh Su’a-Filo into playing better though, as Adams still serves as one of the more useful backups the team has.

Center: Tony Bergstrom

After losing Ben Jones, the Texans signed former Oakland Raiders center, Tony Bergstrom. It looked as though he may be the starter, but that was before the team used a premium pick on Nick Martin.

Bergstrom put his college career on hold as he set out on a LDS church mission before attending Utah. After graduating he was selected in the third round of the NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders where he started just four games.

Thanks to the lack of centers on the roster, Bergstrom should be active each game for Houston, even if it means putting a better overall player on the inactive list.
