4. Offensive Line

Following who was playing along the Houston Texans offensive line in 2015 was not an easy thing to do as injuries ravaged the position from the start. With second year guard Xavier Su’a-Filo starting the year hurt, they turned to journeyman tackle Jeff Adams to slide over to guard.

After a few starts, Adams was lost for the year and they started to shuffle some more. Tackle Derek Newton played some guard to fill in for injuries as they had more tackles on the bench ready to go than guards.

There was also injury issues that forced left tackle Duane Brown in and out of action and the team GM Rick Smith looked pretty smart for sending a seventh round pick to the Denver Broncos for Chris Clark, as he was called on to play quite a bit in 2015, including four starts.

Now that the season is over the Texans have to look to free agency to bring in some experienced depth, especially along the interior of the line. With starting center Ben Jones and guard Brandon Brooks both set to hit free agency, that need could be even greater if the Texans lose one, or both of them.

With all the fans clamoring (and rightly so) for a new quarterback, the line needs to be much better. If not, it won’t matter who is under center because they will never have the time they need to operate the offense.
