Houston Texans: Five free agent cornerback options
By Randy Gurzi
Brandon Boykin, Pittsburgh Steelers, 25 years old
A fourth-round selection out of Georgia in 2012, Brandon Boykin came on big as a slot corner for the Philadelphia Eagles by recording six interceptions in his second season. Following his breakout season the corner rarely saw the field in 2014 and then was shipped to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2015.
Again in 2015, Boykin played limited snaps, which was really baffling considering his talent. Sure, he takes some gambles, but the six interceptions in 2013 showed that he paid off on a good bit of those gambles. He also posted 102 tackles in his three seasons in Philly, which shows despite being listed at just 5-foot-9 and 183 pounds, he wasn’t afraid to come up and make a stop.
For a team like Houston, it would make sense to have someone like Boykin following the shifty slot receivers while Jackson and Johnson patrol the outside. Of course that would mean moving on from Joseph most likely, but age isn’t on the veterans side anyway.
