Round 5, Pick 20: Joe Dahl, Guard, Washington State

Joe Dahl played for Mike Leach at Washington State and could be a gamble, but in the fifth round, it’s worth taking that gamble. The issue with players like Dahl in Leach’s spread system is that they rarely line up in a traditional stance.

Dahl was often in a two-point stance and would quickly retreat into pass blocking mode. However, he appears to have the strength to make the transition to a prototypical NFL blocker and he also has the experience of playing multiple positions on the line, including both left tackle and left guard.

That versatility could be huge for the Texans as they had to shuffle lineman from one spot to another repeatedly to cover for injured players.

Dahl may be a bit of a project given his college scheme, but with some coaching he could become a useful member of the o-line.
