Houston Texans: Full 7-round 2016 mock draft, early version
By Randy Gurzi
Round 3, Pick 22: Chris Jones, DT, Mississippi State
Mississippi State defensive lineman Chris Jones is a huge man. At 6’6″ and 308 pounds he has the size to line up opposite J.J. Watt as a defensive end in the 3-4 system, while also being big enough to slide inside if needed.
A former basketball player who started playing football later than most, he is still learning the nuances of the game, but if he reaches his potential he could be a steal in the third round.
His lengthy arms and strong upper body could go a long way in occupying blockers and disrupting quarterbacks, and although raw he would still draw enough attention based on his physicality alone to help free up some pass rushing outside linebackers.
Playing against some solid SEC talent, the junior recorded 94 tackles with 17.5 going for a loss, including 8.5 sacks.
