Houston Texans: Seven free agent options at tight end
By Randy Gurzi
Zach Miller, Chicago Bears, 31 years old
The Chicago Bears featured Martellus Bennett as their top tight end, but looked just fine when they had to turn to the former sixth round pick Zach Miller after Bennett’s injury.
Miller, originally a draft pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars, has always seemed to fair well when called upon.
In 15 games during this past season, Miller recorded 34 receptions for 439 yards and five touchdowns, all career highs. During his time in Jacksonville, the 6’5″ tight end recorded 20 or more receptions in back-to-back seasons as a second tight end.
Then in 2011 injuries began to hit and he spent the next few years on injured reserve for both the Jags and then in 2013 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Signed by the Bears in 2014, Miller again was injured and didn’t see the field until 2015.
Now a free agent, and looking to have regained his health, Miller could be a viable option for a team in need of a pass catching tight end.
