22. Appearing on ‘Hard Knocks’

In 2015 the Texans were chosen to be featured on the popular HBO series ‘Hard Knocks.’ The show follows one franchise around for their entire preseason and training camp and gives fans an in-depth look behind the scenes.

The show has been considered a distraction by some, but for a team like Houston, it was a positive in that it brought some much needed attention to the blue collar franchise.

J.J. Watt has been a star since becoming a member of the team, but not much has been known about anyone else. The show allowed people to see the personality and humor possessed by head coach Bill O’Brien while also introducing a budding star to the world in DeAndre Hopkins.

At times the people at HBO played up the whole “Watt works hard” narrative way too much, but there were some great moments as well. One being the fans falling in love with the personality of defensive back Charles James II.

James was cut in the end and wound up in Baltimore before coming back in recent weeks. What the show did for him was make him a fan favorite, with more than just Texans fans.

The best part of the show was seeing Twitter dominated by the Texans every Tuesday night, which was followed by them being featured each Wednesday on sports radio shows around the nation. In the end, the show was a positive for the young franchise, not a distraction.
