Texans poll: Brian Hoyer season savior, or false hope?

Brian Hoyer has been named the starting quarterback for the remainder of the 2015 NFL season, and this time it looks like there really won’t be a short leash.

Hoyer played sound football agains the Jaguars in his latest start, as he finished with 24 completions on 36 passes for 293 yards and three touchdowns. Most importantly, he had zero turnovers.

For the season Hoyer has put up impressive numbers thus far. He has completed 63 percent of his passes with 10 touchdown passes to just two interceptions (although those were thrown at awful times).

Hoyer has even found his way into the top ten for quarterback rating this season with his career best 103.0 rating after six weeks.

The question with Hoyer though is whether or not this is sustainable. Just last season he seemed to be the quarterback people in Cleveland had been praying for. After nine games Hoyer and the Browns looked poised for a playoff run at 6-3.

Then the wheels fell off and the team dropped the final five games during a 1-6 stretch to end the season. The Ohio native lost his job to Johnny Manziel and was only put back in after the rookie was injured.

We come back to 2015 now and ask how Hoyer will do from here on out. One thing in his favor is that Houston has a better surrounding cast than Cleveland offered the veteran quarterback.

Running back Arian Foster is getting healthier and receiver DeAndre Hopkins simply cannot be guarded. With the weapons he has here, will Hoyer manage the games wisely as he did Sunday, or toss wins away like he did last Thursday against Indianapolis.
