The 16th overall selection this past draft was used by the Texans on Wake Forest cornerback Kevin Johnson and if the preseason is any indicator, this pick is going to work out nicely. Johnson played with poise and confidence during his initial trials at the NFL level.
He showed a willingness to hit and proved scouts right about his solid technique as he came up big on a fourth down play to break up a pass against the Saints. Even more impressive was that he dusted off a mistake after missing a tackle to make the stop, showing he won’t be phased by the growing pains many young players face.
While Johnson won’t crack the top-two at the corner position, this will be the first chance for Texans fans to see how the team’s newest first round investment will pay off.
