Secondary (Cornerbacks and Safeties)

The Texans have quietly assembled one of the best secondaries in the league in my opinion. First round draft pick Kevin Johnson really impressed in preseason and will begin the season as the nickel corner, however expect some situational adjustments where he is brought in to cover speedy wideouts and Kareem Jackson moves over to cover the slot receiver.

A.J. Boye is a reliable cover guy who is also not afraid to lay the smackdown in run support. He gave up some big plays last year we’ll see how he adjusts to having an even more dominant front 7 and safeties that can get over the top to help with coverage.

Quintin Demps was perhaps the best acquisition of the offseason. He’s shown that he can still cover deep with amazing speed. Coach Crennell got an early Christmas gift with this guy.

Rahim Moore and Eddie Pleasant are going to be interchangeable depending on the situation (are you noticing a pattern here yet with this defense?) and neither guy is going to do any favors for the opposing offense.

Lonnie Ballentine has emerged as perhaps the biggest surprise in training camp and will be the starter at free safety. Andre Hal had a great preseason and will be on the field on every down at strong safety.
