Predictions For The Texans

So how does Rahim Moore fit into the Texans plans for 2015?

This offseason, both of the staring safeties from last year left the team, as Kendrick Lewis left through free agency and D.J. Swearinger was released. This left a rather large hole for the team to fill, so the staff went out and snagged Moore off the market with a 3 year contract worth $12 million, fairly cheap for a 25-year-old starter with lots of potential.

Moore should easily impress the staff this offseason and lock down one of the two safety spots. O’Brien has stated that he wants the safeties to play interchangeably, being able to lock down their respective sides of the field.

Moore has great size for a starting safety, and should be able to star in this defense as a true ballhawk. He defends the middle of the field so well that he may play as the single safety in certain packages. He has quick feet and is able to make up lost ground when he’s caught out of place.

While Moore has shown lots of ability in rangy coverage, one area where he could improve is his tackling. He doesn’t have the big hit reputation of some safeties in the league, and at 195 pounds, could work to bulk up a bit, as long as it doesn’t sacrifice his speed and range.

Based on the statistics of last year’s safety play and his past numbers, I’d predict that Rahim Moore will finish with 76 tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 4 interceptions.
